SVS-Dnepr CJSC: 15-year experience of construction and reconstruction. Electropanorama No. 11, 2007
We continue to present to our readers advanced experience of completion of construction and electrical installation works by SVS-Dnepr and Kyiv Energy Construction Company which are currently national leaders implementing the latest technologies of construction and reconstruction of energy projects.
In the previous materials, we presented works related to reconstruction of the 110 kV CL and high voltage substations (EP, No. 11-12, 2005), and also to design and construction of modern (including underground) 10/0.4 kV TSS (EP, No. 10-11, 2007) in Kyiv.
Our motto: always be a step ahead!
SVS-Dnepr CJSC was founded in 1993 as a multidisciplinary construction and installation company. The company’s main line of activities includes construction and reconstruction of substations, switchgears, systems of electrical supply to industrial facilities and buildings, installation of cable and overhead electric power transmission lines, electrical power installations and systems of lighting of industrial, administrative, and residential buildings, as well as performance of general construction works.
The company currently employs over 900 highly qualified specialists. Many of them were involved in construction of big energy projects such as Chernobylskaya, Smolenskaya, and Khmelnitskaya NPPs, Dnieper Hydroelectric Pumped Storage Power Plant, Assouanskaya HEP (Egypt), Huragua NPP (Cuba), Zhyzhel HPP (Algeria), and many other projects.
Use of modern equipment and materials, and mastering of advanced innovative technologies made it possible for the Company to hold a leading position on the market of construction and electrical installation works, scheduled repair works and overhauls of energy equipment, reconstruction of the residential and administrative building fund.
Reconstruction of substations – a way to improvement of electrical supply reliability
Recently, due to intensive construction of new and reconstruction of the existing industrial, administrative, and welfare buildings in Kyiv and Kyiv region, there have emerged a problem of a significant increase in electrical supply amounts and, accordingly, in construction of new or reconstruction of the existing transformer substations. Taking into account the fact that due to significant density of development in Kyiv and its suburbs, allotting a territory for construction of a new substation is a quite problematic process and takes much time to have everything approved, reconstruction of the existing step-down substations performed within short time periods using the latest technologies in many cases helps resolve an extremely important problem of increasing electrical supply amounts and reliability.
As an example of a successful engineering solution, let us consider the project of reconstruction of the 110 kV WDM in the 110/10 kV Iskra SS which was completed in accordance with the statement of work approved by AES Kyivoblenergo CJSC in order to significantly increase amounts and reliability of electrical supply to consumers in Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district.
The general view of the 110 kV WDM in the 110/10 kV Iskra SS before reconstruction (with installed oil breakers MKP-110 M) is shown in picture 1.
The 110/10 kV Iskra SS reconstruction project included:
- replacement of 110 kV separators with modern highly reliable circuit breakers with the appropriate transition of the existing “Bridge with breakers in the circuits of lines and the repair switch from the lines side” WDM-110 kV circuit to a new and more reliable “Bridge with breakers in the circles of transformers and the repair switch from the lines side” circuit;
- replacement of oil breakers MKP-110M with modern three pole circuit breakers with a nominal voltage of 145 kV, a nominal current of 3150 A, and a GL 312XF1 type breaking current of 40 kA with a spring drive FK3-4 made by AREVA (Germany);
- reconstruction of the relay protection circuits and circuits of secondary connection elements of the SS;
- reconstruction of the telemechanics circles (HC, TS, TV);
- replacement of the existing BCA-5 type charging-trickle charger.
The general view of the 110 kV WDM in the 110/10 kV Iskra SS after reconstruction is shown in picture 2. Pictures 2 and 4 show 110 kV circuit breakers installed in the process of reconstruction, current and voltage transformers. In the process of reconstruction of the relay protection systems and automatic equipment, in particular, works were performed to install non-standard panels of protection and automatics of GL 312XF1 breakers and relevant secondary circuits. Installation of additional equipment ensures elimination of damage in a normal and repair modes of the substation’s operation.
The general view of new devices of the relay protection is shown in picture 5, and internal installation of secondary circuits – in picture 6.
It should be also noted that construction and electrical installation works related to reconstruction of the 110/10 kV Iskra SS were performed under difficult conditions (restricted access, crane and other machinery operation on the territory of the operating substation. Installation and removal of equipment, etc) without breaking electrical supply to consumers.
Quality above all!
In 2002, SVS-Dnepr CJSC implemented the quality management system pursuant to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 international standards. The key objective of integrating the system is to improve organization of the Company’s activities. Therefore, in order to ensure strict compliance with quality at all the stages of implementation of projects, SVS-Dnepr CJSC made the quality management system binding upon all of its subsidiaries, and also companies belonging to the Company’s area of influence.
In 2007, the quality management system of SVS-Dnepr CJSC underwent an external certified audit held by the TUF-NORD Ukraine international certification body and obtained a relevant certificate.
For the last few years, specialists of SVS-Dnepr and Kyiv Energy and Construction Company have accumulated huge experience in construction and reconstruction of high voltage substations with a higher voltage of up to 330 kV inclusive. All the projects operate reliably with no remarks.
Cooperation with SVS-Dnepr CJSC and Kyiv Energy Construction Company is a prerequisite for high quality and timely completion of design, construction, and electrical installation works.
